Malt Extract Agar is the water-soluble portion of malted barley (particularly maltose), plus agar and is used for the cultivation of fungi on a solid medium. It is an acidic medium which will support the growth of most yeasts and moulds whilst inhibiting most bacteria. Malt Extract provides carbon, protein and nutrients in culture media.
